Admission to Galen College of Nursing in Cincinnati

We encourage prospective nursing students to schedule an appointment with an Admissions Representative to discuss Galen’s nursing programs and tour the nursing school. Our personalized approach allows us to get to know you and for you to have a firsthand experience in our educational setting.

Admission into Galen College of Nursing is selective and based upon available facilities and resources in the community, as well as within the nursing school itself. Applicants must:

  • Be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Be a high school graduate or hold a GED.

We make it easy to get started on your nursing degree:

  • Schedule an appointment to visit our campus. This can easily be done through our web chat feature, by contacting an Admissions Representative at 513.475.3600 or through our online request more information form.
  • During your visit you will get all the information you need, have your questions answered, and have the opportunity to tour our nursing education facilities.
  • Upon making a decision to apply to Galen, follow the steps outlined in our Become A Student/Admissions page. These steps will also be thoroughly explained when you visit our campus.

Don’t wait to apply! Although Galen classes begin quarterly, classes fill quickly. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and submit your application early.

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ASN)

1. Apply
Upon deciding to apply for enrollment in nursing classes at Galen, submit a completed application.

2. Test
Submit applicable ACT/SAT scores (19 ACT or 1350 SAT) within the last five years

OR

Schedule to take—and pass—Galen’s pre-admission test. (Non-refundable testing fee is $50.)

Galen’s pre-admission test is the PAX-RN. If you’ve taken this test in the last five years, you might be exempt from testing for Galen.

3. Proof of Education
Submit proof of high school graduation or GED.

4. Interview
If required, interview with Galen Admissions Committee representative.

5. Acceptance
Upon completion of the above steps, your application will be considered in totality. You will be notified in writing of admission or denial.

6. Sign Enrollment Agreement
Upon acceptance, schedule an appointment with a Galen Financial Planning Coordinator to pay appropriate fees and sign the enrollment agreement.

7. Orientation
Attend mandatory orientation prior to the start of class.

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (LPN-to-RN Bridge Program) Additional Requirements

For applicants currently holding an LPN license, Galen College of Nursing offers an opportunity to continue on to become an RN. In addition to the above admission requirements, students applying to this program must also meet the following criteria:

  • Submit an official LPN transcript reflecting a GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Provide proof of current, active, unencumbered PN licensure prior to enrollment into the RN program.
  • Non-Galen graduates may be requested to validate comparable LPN requirements. Faculty may validate using nationally-normed tests and clinical competency requirements.
  • If applicable, schedule an advisory meeting to determine course selection.
