Louisville Nursing Schools Transfer Credits

If an applicant is currently attending or has attended a school other than Galen College with a related curriculum, credit might be obtained for those courses. A request for evaluation of prior courses and credits must be submitted at the time of initial application to Galen.

A copy of the official transcript(s) of the courses to be considered for transfer must be sent to Galen directly from each school, college, or university attended. Consideration of transfer credits will generally not be made once the student has begun coursework; this includes any course a student may take at another college or university while enrolled in Galen. At least 51% of course credits required for graduation must be earned at Galen College.

Only general education courses listed in the curriculum plan may be options for transfer to Galen. Science and mathematics –oriented general education courses will be considered if they have been completed within the last ten (10) years. Special consideration may be given to students with prior completed degrees. Galen generally will not accept for transfer any nursing courses required for the RN program.

The Dean or Assistant Dean will have discretion to accept or reject transfer credits. Applicants may be requested to provide a copy of the school catalog with course description and/or a syllabus for the course. To be considered for transfer credit, a grade of “C” or higher must have been earned in the course; science and math courses which required more than one attempt to earn a grade of “C” or higher will not be considered for transfer credit. Transfer credit coursework grades will not be computed into the student’s Galen grade point average (GPA).

Transfer of Galen Nursing Credits

The decision to accept credits from another educational institution is made by the receiving institution and is considered on an individual course basis. Galen has articulation agreements in place with several colleges and universities to facilitate the acceptance of credits earned at Galen towards advanced nursing degrees. Information and materials on these schools are readily available upon request. Galen College of Nursing, while nationally accredited, does not currently possess the same accreditation as many colleges and universities that offer advanced nursing degrees.

Prospective students who plan to continue their educational studies beyond the associate degree level are encouraged to speak with Galen staff and administration about their plans and request assistance to transfer nursing credits. If you wish to apply to a school where Galen does not have an articulation agreement in place, Galen will make every effort to provide necessary information to the receiving institution on behalf of the student.

WHAT IS AN ARTICULATION AGREEMENT?
An articulation agreement between two nursing schools represents an understanding between the programs that specific credits will transfer from the initial RN program (Associate Degree) to the second program toward completion of a BSN education. Articulation agreements allow Associate Degree program gradates to continue their education while getting significant allowable transfer credits toward the 2nd degree completion.

While most RN roles pay similar salaries in all patient care settings, nurses prepared at the BSN or higher degree levels (MSN, APRN, DNP) are generally compensated at higher salary levels based on their education and leadership achievements.

Galen has such agreements in place with Spalding University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Grand Canyon University and the University of Phoenix. Contact information for these schools is listed below.
