Dr. Joan L. Frey, at Galen College of Nursing Re-elected for Second Term as Secretary, Board of Governors for the National League for Nursing

October 4, 2013 – LOUISVILLE, KY – Galen College of Nursing is pleased to announce that Joan L. Frey, EdD, RN, has been re-elected to a second term as Secretary on the National League for Nursing’s Board of Governors.

As a longtime League member, Dr. Frey has served as Council and Committee member, and Chair, Board of Governors. Dr. Frey has been re-elected to the 2013 to 2016 term, having served her first term as Board of Governors Secretary from 2010 to 2013.

The National League for Nursing is a leader in nursing education, advancing excellence and innovation in the preparation of a nursing workforce to advance the health of our nation. “NLN has emerged into the 21st century as the premier leader in nursing education through the active and mutually supportive work of its members and leadership,” said Dr. Frey. “I am honored and pleased to continue my role in the leadership of this organization which is so integral to the long-term growth and development of nursing education.”

Newly-elected National League for Nursing President Marsha Adams, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, congratulated Dr. Frey on her re-election to the post of secretary on the NLN Board of Governors. Said Dr. Adams, “The NLN is fortunate to have nurse educators of Dr. Frey’s caliber willing to give so generously of their time and experience. I am looking forward, during my term as President, to working with Dr. Frey as she continues to serve in the capacity of an officer of the NLN Board. Her leadership, dedication, and efforts are of great value to the NLN.”

As secretary, Dr. Frey will continue to be actively engaged in the NLN’s focus on quality standards, research, excellence in teaching/learning practices and public policy initiatives. Her long term work with the NLN allows her to help support the NLN and its members to meet the health care challenges of today and the future.

Dr. Frey joined Galen College of Nursing in 2008 as Dean of its main campus in Louisville, Kentucky. Galen Board of Directors Chairperson, Kathy Mershon, MSN, RN, CNAA, FAAN served on the NLN board with Dr. Frey in the 1990’s and had this to say of her long-time associate. “The first time I met Joan Frey, I knew she was special. She is engaged, conscientious and calls on her vast wisdom during decision making discussions. It is Galen’s great fortune to have her leading our Main Campus and the NLN is fortunate to have her serve as a board member.”
